Meet Coach Newton Chelette
DELIVERING RESULTS FOR OUR COMMUNITY
I have helped students learn, compete, lead, and succeed. As a retired Antelope Valley College Dean, Vice President of Student Services, Athletic Director, instructor, and coach, I understand education from the classroom, campus administration, and the sidelines.
At Antelope Valley College, I served as a PE instructor, men’s basketball coach, golf coach, Athletic Director, Dean of Kinesiology, Dean of Visual and Performing Arts, and Vice President of Student Services. During my 46 years of coaching, I helped generations of young people develop confidence, discipline, teamwork, and belief in their potential.
My record reflects leadership and results. I am the winningest men’s basketball coach in AVC history, a seven-time Foothill Conference Coach of the Year, a California Community College Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame inductee, a Community College Athletic Directors Hall of Fame inductee, a 2024 recipient of the California Commissioners Award, and the first person from Antelope Valley College inducted into the California Community College Hall of Fame.
I continue serving the Antelope Valley through education, athletics, and community leadership, including the AV Fair Board and AV Boosters. In 2014, I was honored as Citizen of the Year. I bring experience, integrity, and a lifelong commitment to strengthening local schools and helping every student and family succeed.
